Hi Everyone!
.
Happy Spring! I have been a busy bee lately and here is my latest offering. I am getting so much use out of this piece. It works with leggings as you can see. It also pairs well with jeans, shorts, capris, and can even work as a swimsuit cover-up!

It all started as this XXL mens workshirt from “Dickies.”

.
The first step was to remove the arms and refit the sides.

.
My next step was to remove the pockets and reattach them a bit higher. I decided to do with out the flap on the remake.

.
Next, I cut down and re-shaped the hems.

.
Adding topstitching to the placket gave the shirt a more finished look.

.
Here is the front view on the form after I have re-attached and shortened the sleeves to 3/4 length.

.
Side view on the form.

Nicely done! You look really cute in it, too.
Thank you so much Laura! I am not a frilly person so it is just right for my lifestyle.
Looks great, I have sevreal shirts I could makeover for spring
Do it Ann!! It can be so easy. This one was a breeze because the body was so big it was easy to draw a new armhole. I just traced the armhole from a known pattern once the body was fitted.
As always, I enjoyed your blog post. I love the way this project. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Carrie! Thank you for your continued readership! Love that I can inspire!
I really like it Mary. Thank you for the great little tutorial also.
Hello Betty! Glad the tutorials are helpful. It is a fine line between showing too much or too little. Make sure to let me know if you have any questions 🙂
Lovely work,as you always do,Mary.thanks a lot for the idea.Very cute on you.
Hey Evi! So nice to hear from you. Thanks for the compliment 🙂
I love these shirts and the few times I’ve seen them in stores for women, they are cheap-looking and they rarely fit. I like this. I may try it during the summer when we break from school. It seems so daunting, with removing the sleeves, etc. But if I get it at Goodwill it would be wonderful. Thanks!
Hello Pat! Because the body was so big it was easy to draw a new armhole. I just traced the armhole from a known pattern once the body was fitted. Then I use the sleeve pattern to adjust the old sleeve. See this link from the past to get the idea:

I love this. I am always on the lookout for a good denim shirt.
Hey Carol! I love chambray denim too! Jeans are my life! THe new trend is to mix light and dark colors of the fabric. Perfect for us Refashionistas.
Love this, Mary!
You are so talented!
Hey Christine! Thanks for being a fan! Hope all is well.
It looks like something you can wear so many different ways. Great makeover.
Hello Ami!
Yes it is! It goes with leggings, capris, jeans and even doubles as a swimsuit cover.

This is a great remake, it actually looks like expensive RTW after your work on it.
Hi Connie!
Right? Top stitching does wonders!!!!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Connie, A little topstitching and fitting helps any garment look more expensive. 🙂
Well done!
Hi Suella,
Thank you for following!
Very nice. I like how you made it feminine-ized it. It’s been years (years!) since I’ve sewn and am rusty. Could you do a tutorial on how you refit the sleeves?
Hi TXSUN!
Thank you! That is a good idea on doing a tutorial on how to fit sleeves. It will take a while to do right by it but I will get on to it!
You did a wonderful job and it looks like a very versatile piece! This gives me some good ideas. By the way, I just finished my man’s Hawaiian shirt made into a woman’s size similar to the one you did, and am very happy with it. It took so long because I kept getting interrupted with other things to do! Thanks for all the inspiration.
Hi Georgie
SO glad to hear that! You are very welcome and send me a picture will ya? 🙂
Love it! Simple and can be worn different ways!
Hello Debi!
Yes it is!!! It has become one of my favorite go to pieces. It also looks good as a shirt over a t-shirt with the front open!
I like the fact that you kept it as a shirt and not made into a blouse. The original intention for that fabric is retained. I guess that is why it looks authentic and great on you.
Miss your posts. Do blog more often.
Hi Sadhana!
So happy you like it. We all have too many blouses right? We all need go to pieces like this that can be worn in different ways.
This is awesome and gives me so many ideas! However I’m curious as to why you didn’t add darts to show off your small waist more?
Hi Neola,
Thank you for your comments. I am glad to help inspire! For this refashion I wanted to keep it more of a tunic than a blouse. Thanks for the comment on my waist though 🙂
I love this. We must have exactly the same taste in clothes, I love all your refashions. I want to do some. Just like yours!
Hi Sharon!
Thanks so much! Great minds think alike. I just love classic well fitted clothes. Nothing fussy or too trendy. Stick with me for other ideas and thanks again for commenting!
