Here you see a hard-won victory. It is my latest sweater refashion inspired by the picture you see right below it. It is not exactly the same, but I think I came pretty close.

I thought this would be relatively easy for me to do, but I was easily fooled. Having said that, I have to apologize for what will be the lackluster tutorial. Making this was a blur and it went through so many changes. I/you will have to put up with a tutorial that simply documents those changes and here it is…
.
It all started with this crochet tablecloth which I purchased for $15 at Community Thrift. I thought the price was rather outrageous since it had some stains, but as I have said before, this is LA and they go for the jugular out here!
.
.
1)I draped and played with the tablecloth for days until I came up with a plan of attack. Here is my first step. I cut out the middle being careful to cut along landmarks of the crochet to maximize finished edges.
.
.
2)Here is the first drape of the front…
and the back…
.
3) Once I got to this point, I crocheted the back and the side seams together using a single crochet stitch. I cut and pinned the hem around the front and back so only the shell stitch was showing
.
3) My next step was to attach the shell pattern all around the hem
Here is a view of the front and back after I was finished. A shell stitch was added around the sleeve and I did have to refit the back a second time.
.
.
Well, that’s it! What do you think? I love to hear from you!!!
.
‘Til next time!
Love Ya,
Mary

Oh, this is so pretty, Mary! We must’ve been on the same crochet wave length lately, my post was a crochet one today, too. Great minds think alike!!!
Hope you had a wonderful Sunday!
Beth
Mary, this is beautiful and all I can say is that I wish it was mine! However, the only thing I have ever been able to achieve with the crochet hook is a “Granny Square.” You are a very talented girl, and a pretty one too!
Thanks Sandy,
Crochet is actually pretty easy to do. I taught myself in elementary school. You could learn very quickly. I am sure there are online tutorials or classes at your local fabric store. It is a handy skill to have!
Beautiful job! I agree with the LA comment. You might want to check out Jet Rag’s yard sale day on Sun mornings in Hollywood. Everything is $1!! I just picked up 2 crochet tablecloths there and have been looking for some inspiration before cutting into them. Thx!
Hi Kathy, Believe it or not I just draped it and played with it for a few days and I just started visualizing it. Sorry I can’t be more specific but that’s it!
It’s beautiful! I’ve seen the pin before and wondered how it was made. You did a great job on your version. Love the step-by-step pics. Thank you for sharing.
I was given a circular lace tablecloth by a friend. I have been searching Pinterest for an idea to utilize this beautiful tablecloth. Thank you for the insight.

Hi Beth!
Thank you so much! I was trying to get it ready for the winter white sew along but it was not to be. Had a wonderful Sunday, hope you did too!
When you have Beth Huntington commenting on your refashion it means to me that you have hit the refashion jackpot.
Mary this would be my favourite refashion that you have created. And the styling is lovely, expecially the second photo – beautiful.
Yes, I agree about the $15 price tag especially with stains but you visualised the potential and it was well worth the outlay.

Very creative!! Looks lovely on you. The crocheting blends so well I can’t tell where it is 🙂
could you please sketch out the shaped you cut to make this?
I wish I could Kathy, I draped this as you see in the pictures and it just sort of happened as I went.
how did you know where to cut the tablecloth?
Hi Kathy,
I carefully draped and looked for points to cut that would not unravel.
what was the thought process to cut out the middle of the tablecloth? did you use it at all for the project or just draped the outside perimeter?
Hi Kathy, Believe it or not I just draped it and played with it for a few days and I just started visualizing it. Sorry I can’t be more specific but that’s it!

I have a few that I can’t sell, they are heavy and the shipping is to much so I think this just might be my new project.

Hi Delores!
