Hello Everyone!
.
There is something that happens to me when I am creating. I enter what I call “The ZONE.” Sometimes I get to working so furiously that I forget to document how I did it. That forces me to go back and retrace my steps so I can share them with you.
.
Well, this time I must apologize. It can’t be done! If I went back and showed you each step (which I don’t think I could do anyway) you would probably give up it would take so long. This garment went through so many nips, tucks, cuts, and do-overs that I have amnesia about how it got from the beginning to its end. Even after all of that, I am not sure it was quite successful…you will have to tell me.
.
The best I can give you is a refashion of a refashion. So here goes…
.
This is the AFTER:

.
It all started with this lovely border print skirt. Not something I would wear as is, but you all know I can’t pass up a good border print by now

.
My plan was to turn it into a version of this lovely photo.

.
I guess I have become too used to things working out for me because what I ended up with was this. Bleh! It looks like a frumpy old apron. Pass the potato peeler please!!!

.
I took another look at the picture and saw that the proportions were all wrong and it MUST have the bottom band. I wanted to skip it, but it just looked so boring without it. Here you can see that I cut down the armholes and the yoke. Once again I just cut. (Remember I hate to pick) After that, I added the bottom panel.

.
Much better don’t you think?

It’s really cute although it’s a little hard to see it exactly with your hands in your pockets, but it was a success in my opinion. It would look nice with jeans too. Good job.
Hi Georgie,
Thank you! I was trying to vary my same pose LOL! I am NOT a model Ahhh! It is so much harder than it looks. Kuddos to those skinny chicks who know how to move! 🙂
I really like it! Good job!
Thanks Sue! So glad I could pull this one off. It was inches from the rag bag!
I like it! Perfect proportion! You’re so inspiring — thank you!
I appreciate it Margaret. I had to vary the length because I am long in the torso and I do not like things too short but other than that I think I finally came close!
Love it Mary! You have such great ideas!! I wish we lived closer so I could hang and sew with you! Great blog!!
Thanks so much Shari! I wish the same thing!
You did a good job, the design is quite good. For myself I don’t like to wear things that have gathering above the bust line, it just doesn’t look good on a DD lady. lol
Hi Connie,
I found out you are right about that! I am only a B but I had to choose a bra with the “least” amount of padding in order not to look too disproportionate. In addition, I had to adjust the amount and placement of the gathering.
You’ll notice that your inspiration photo shows a model who is so skinny that her arms look like toothpicks and she has no breasts at all.
You have one good eye there Connie! You are so right!
I think it looks fantastic on you! I really love the colours too. Well done!
Kind regards,
Rosemary.
Hi Rosemary,
Thanks so much! I do love shades of brown prints.
Looks good, I have done something similar with a skirt I couldn’t wear
Hi Annie!
Thanks! I would love it if you would send a pic! On the hanger is fine. 🙂
Oh, nice! Great job, and it’s so reassuring to know that not every refashion goes smoothly at first for the pros either 🙂 I really have kept that fact in mind while I go through the beginner stage of refashioning. I think I would have given up long ago if it weren’t for the honesty of bloggers about their challenges. It’s all about practice and persistence, isn’t it?
You have it right Jo! There are many things now that I have tried and not all are “Blogworthy.” Sometimes things just don’t work out how you planned! LOL!
