Hi Everyone!
.
What do you call a cross between a flannel shirt and sweatshirt? Why, it’s a “Flannshirt” of course!
.

.
Here is a quick little pic. Not my best, (my photographer is away at college) but you get the idea! I have been living in this thing all winter here in So. Cal. It is perfect for rainy cold days. Here I have paired it with jeans and boots but I have also worn it with leggings and boots. (It covers the bum!)

.
This creation started with a wonderfully heavy flannel shirt (lumberjack quality, not your average flannel shirt) and a like new too large sweatshirt! Here you can see I have already marked my yoke line on the sweatshirt.

.

.
The next step was to fit the front of the shirt…

.
Then the back…
.

.
I took the front and back off to firm up the lines of the sweatshirt yoke. Once that was done I sewed the front back and sides.
.
I slimmed down the sleeves and…

.

.
Pinned and sewed them back onto the body!

I think this is fine for most of us. The is a pretty simple refashion. It looks great.
Thank you Connie! I so appreciate the feedback!
I always enjoy your re-fashions because they are usually very simple…I don’t have a lot of extra time…so simple is always better. I like how your posts are informative but brief. Thanks Again!
Good to know Suzanne! I appreciate the comments!
Great idea Mary. Great tutorial. Easy to follow. Thanks
Awesome Betty! I appreciate it!
I have never seen anything like this before, Mary! Great idea, with just the right level of detail so readers could make one for themselves. Thank you!
You are very welcome K D! Thank you for your feedback!
I would like to see how you did the side seams. Love it.
Hi Betty! Once I determined the fit I simply sewed a straight seam up the side.
I enjoy your refashions. I especially love this one!
This is a lovely and practical combination. I like to see lots of detail, the more the better. I particularly like to know fabric content, how much things cost, label and where they were made.
Hi Helen,
Thanks for all of the helpful comments! Have a great day>
I love this combination. I have never liked how collars look on me. I love the feel of flannel. Voila! Here is my solution. Now to find an appropriate shirt to go with one of the sweatshirts I have on hand. Thanks!
Hi Mpaula,
Glad I could help. I am wearing the heck out of mine!
This is a great and creative refashion. As with all your posts, it is so inspiring. I am looking forward to your next posts!
Thank you Georgie!
I plan on delivering again soon!
Hi Mary you answered my Prayers! I have been holding on to a “lumberjack quality” flannel shirt for 20 years that belonged to my father. Every year I put in back in my stash saying one day I will remake this and wear it. Now I have that chance, thanks to your idea and creation of the “Cozy Flannshirt”. What a blessing in many many ways! I so want to do this project. I am a beginning sewer of only 2 years. I have taken some beginning sewing classes and feel confident with my machine and teaching myself watching tutorials. I see your instructions, but have questions along the way, like how did you determine the cuts of both shirts so as to match up to sew together? and why did you cut off the sleeves? Do you have a youtube tutorial of you making this. I want to do it correctly
Hi Mona!
I don’t have a Youtube link (that is in my future). I determined the cut by making sure I had enough room for the shirt to fit like a tunic. (I measured similar garments) Then I looked at some of my sweatshirts and sized the sleeves to them. Since the armhole was straight and not set in, it was pretty easy to sew in the sleeve. Let me know anytime you have any questions!
Thank you Mary for your response. I will follow your instructions. I am excited about trying this project. It means a lot to me. 🙂
Love it. I want to turn a men’s flannel shirt into a women’s flannel shirt but I’m nervous & don’t know where to even begin. Any advice? TIA
THank you Esmeralda!! Check out another shirt that fits you and cut it down to match.!
YOUR tutorials are perfect, you show the right procedures. I Finally Found Someone not to give every silly detail like a 6-minute list of what you’ll need. Thank you so much for getting to the point with such wonderful quality work. Thank you
Hey Maryellen! Thank you so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it. I try to keep my directions tight and glad you like it. There is a fine line between giving too much and too little information. I try to keep it simple and people can ask questions if they need to know more. Happy New Year to you and yours!
