Hi Everyone!
.
My search for tropical treasure continues… This men’s XXL Hawaiian shirt was a find for $2.50. Once again, I had the luck that it had never been worn as the tags were still attached. It is made of a beautiful rayon fabric with an awesome silky hand to it. I really loved the yellow accents on the print although they are hard to see on the pictures. Once I put on the shirt my project was clear. It had to be a kimono jacket!

This project was easy, fun, and dare I say it turned out very cute! I would highly recommend it for beginning sewers. I have paired it with a tank top and my white boyfriend jeans but it could easily be paired with Bermuda shorts or a pencil skirt and heels as well.
.
Following is the tutorial:

Step 1) Cut off the collar right at the stand. Don’t even bother to pick it off as cutting it right next to the seam will work fine.

Step 2) Pin the plackets under to create a smooth line down the center front

Step 3) Cut off the plackets and pick off the pocket from the front.

Step 4) Pin wide bias tape around the placket and neck.
.

Step 5) Sew down the bias tape on the first fold line.
.

Step 6) Turn under the bias tape and stitch in the ditch.

Step 7) In the center back I took a 1 inch pleat on each side and held it down with a few buttons from the placket. This helped to cinch in the bulk in the back.
