Hello Everyone!
.
Get set for an easy refashion that you can do with those crop or too short t-shirts that are not age appropriate for anyone with less than a perfect stomach. Call me a prude, but I don’t think anyone should show their stomach unless they are at the beach, but that is my humble opinion.
Here is the fun, carefree after, a great floral t-shirt given new life with a gathered peplum. The necklace is a refashion as well. It is made of two short necklaces clipped together to make a fantastic new longer version!:

The original floral top actually came to the waist, but unless I wore high rise jeans (no mom jeans allowed! Ever!) my stomach would show every time I moved. Adding a quick peplum was the perfect solution!
.
Following is the tutorial on how I did it all:
.

I found this lovely piece at the local Goodwill. It was half price tag plus my senior discount of 10%. “Ka ching!” The fabric was heavy, and in wonderful shape, but as I mentioned the length was just a little too short.
.

The very same day I found this extra large, gauzy, and stretchy T that would be a perfect fabric choice to create a peplum. Here you can see that I have cut off the bottom. I had determined the length needed for my peplum and and cut the panel. Of course I made sure to add enough for seam allowance.
.

The next step was to make a long gathering stitch across the top, pull the threads, and arrange the gathers evenly across the panel to match the bottom measurement of the floral shirt.
.

The final step was to pin the peplum on the floral T. I only made 1 row of regular stitching along the existing hemline stitching to attach it. That was it! I used the existing hemline of both pieces so no other stitching was necessary.
.
The Necklace:

.
I had these two necklaces in my closet. The one on the left was a peridot chip and the one on the right was a charm choker. “Choker” here is the operative word. Maybe “Back in the day” but now I really don’t like anything too close around the neck. It is just not comfortable for me anymore. I have been adding chain extensions to loosen up a lot of my old shorter versions but here is an easy way to make a long one out of two necklaces.

I always enjoy your refashions – so practical. Maybe because I’m a 52 year old teacher I can relate. Ha, ha, but seriously, your refashion clothes are real. I too agree that tummies should not be seen except at the beach, and even there, some should still be hidden.
Thanks for your comments Ingrid. In my book refashions have to be real otherwise they are a waste of time and effort. While the fashion magazines are great, they don’t relate to what my real life needs. I just try to marry fashion trends to my practical unglamorous lifestyle. So glad you can relate. Totally agree on your tummy comment! LOL!
Love your refashion ideas! You are so creative.
Thank you so much for following Marsha! Have a wonderful day!
how do I read older blog posts? is there a place to click that I can’t see?
Hi Kathy,
First, make sure you are in the home section of my blog and not just connected to 1 post. If you are in the home section you should be able to see my last 3 posts. Then at the very bottom of the posts you should see toggle boxes to go back and forth from old to new posts. Also, at the bottom of the page is a box for the monthly archives. Let me know if you need any more help!
That peplum is such a great idea. With my short legs/long waist I know I should wear tops that stop around my hips/waist but this often results in drafts – intolerable in a cold wet climate and on a person my age. Matching the bottom half solves both problems. Love it.
Hi Shelly!
Glad I could help:) Have a great day!
Combining the 2 necklaces is genius!!
Hi Jill,
I thought so too! Ha Ha! Thank you!
The peplum refashion is so cute. The idea could be used to save a lot of too-short tops! Thanks for the necklace ideas…very smart. Have a great year at school. I am retired now, but I remember the excitement of the start of a new school year.
Hi Georgie!
Thank you so much for following. Yes, This could be used on any too short top. The peplum could be gathered, on the bias or shaped to look like a shirt bottom.
That’s a really cute refashion!
Thank you so much Kelly!
Just catching up after the summer, Mary – I love this idea and your result. My t-shirts do tend to be too short – not stomach-baring short, but they stop at my widest part, so adding to the bottom is something I can use for several of them. This top is so cute and summery! Love the idea for connecting two shorter necklaces as well.
Hi Jo!
Wow! You were busy catching up alright! Thank you for all of the lovely comments!
