Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I know it has been a while, but I am still here and refashioning. I have something new for you and it is something that I have never done before… Home furnishings, check it out!
.
It all started with tons of Pinterest pictures of jeans refashioned into all kinds of things; quilts, bags, toys etc. Then of course there were stacks of jeans taking up space in my closet that AHEM! no longer fit. (Get to the gym Mary) That was it! I decided to be OK with being a size 10 and give myself the gift of more room in my closet. Thus, a refashion idea was born. I decided to use those jeans to make something to brighten up my workroom. The floor needed a rug and the couch needed some pillows to look a little more homey. I wasn’t about to spend $30 to $40 dollars for the pillows, and up to $100 for the rug I wanted. Not when I knew how to do it almost for free.
.
This is the crochet rag rug and pillows made totally out of that stack of jeans that didn’t fit. I made yarn out of the legs of quite a few old pair, and used the bottom of the legs of another pair to make the pillows.
.
.
.
The yarn on the left is the kind that creates the little flaps in the rug. The flap yarn was a little difficult to work with and needed a lot of manipulation but the effect was worth it. The yarn on the right if the yarn that created more of a traditional smooth texture.
.
.
After the yarn was made, I just took my time to crochet and fashion stripes with the different colors and kinds of denim yarn. I planned the colors and kinds of yarn as I worked and must admit that working with denim yarn is quite a workout for the hands. As a result, I had to take a big break before starting the next rug. Additionally, I had to alter the way I held my hook and wrap my index finger when I worked because I was starting to develop a repetitive use injury.
.
(Pictured below is a new rug I am starting in gray tones). (The finger wrap is not pictured here)
.
Any questions? I would love to hear from you.
This is it until next time.
Love ya!

I am glad to your report on Jean yarn. I make crotchet rag rugs but was hesitant on how to cut the jeans up. So I am glad to hear your directions. Thanks
Hi Robbie, Thank you for your comments
The strips were about 1/2″. I liked using both methods because it gave my work depth and texture. Have a good day!

Thank you so much Joanne! Happy New Year to you and yours!
The pillows and rug are beautiful! I know the rug took a long time but it sure looks worth it!
Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you Georgie! Yes, it was hard but very worth it.
Happy New Year!
How wide did you cut the strips? And which method of cutting did you prefer crocheting with? I really love this. Thanks for sharing!
