Gray Denim Embroidered Jacket

April 30, 2022 By Mary Peterson 18 Comments

I know, I know, I have said before that I would “Cool it” on jackets for a while, but for some reason they just seem to keep ending up in my basket when I leave the thrifty store. Here is my latest save. Something like this is fairly easy to do as long as you have some embroidery skills.

After

This is my latest and greatest jacket rescue. I love the fact that it is a different color than blue. Just wait until you see the before!

Before

This gray denim jacket had some pretty cool distressed areas , but also some pretty ugly yellowish bleach spots on both sleeves. The lighting here makes it look lighter than it really is. At a cost of $15 it was the perfect base for some refashioning.
This small black chambray shirt had the perfect color for the yoke embroidery. I paid $4. 99 for it!
BEFORE: I pinned on the embroidery from the shirt. I will be using an iron on heat bond and decorate the edges with blanket stitch embroidery. The bleach spots will be covered up by my hand embroidery.
AFTER: Left Side yoke and sleeve after the transformation
Right side: bleach spots before my embroidery
AFTER: Bleach spots are gone! Notice the two little butterfly french knots on the top

What do you think? I am open for review and questions as always. I have missed doing “My thing,” so much. My day job as a teacher has been kicking my behind. The “Last 2 years” have been crazy, but I still have hope that “My last 2 years” before I retire might resemble some kind of normalcy. That way I can create anytime I please!!!!

Talk to me!

      Betty,

Thank you! I am starting to find that out. I think that is why jackets still keep finding their way to me. Don’t worry, more to come!

Thank you Maria, It was fun to practice my hand embroidery skills. I like my long hair but am still working on how to live with it. hahaha the pixie that I had for so many years was soooo much easier!
