I was about to walk out the thrift shop with nothing until this item strolled by on the new item cart. It had possibilities, and what those were I just wasn’t sure yet, but only time would tell. I just knew I had to have it, and calmly stalked it until it was released to the sale rack for $10. It was never worn, tags still on it! Score!

This was full of possibility, but it just wasn’t me. It was just too much. I loved the lacing but I just wanted a “Touch” of it, not the whole coat.

Now this coat is me…BUT WAIT, there is a surprise inside!
Tutorial
I kept the coat in my stash for a few months and went through tons of different ways to change it came to mind, none “Just right” until I found a pair of jeans with this lovely long embroidery panel down the side and I knew what had to happen.

Release the embroidery from the jeans

Pin the embroidery panels in place

Front view of the sleeve with embroidery band pinned

Back view of the sleeve before topstitching
I’ll bet you are wondering about the surprise inside. Here it is I left the laces. They are still here!

Can’t wait to hear from you…..
Happy Refashioning

What a perfect match you found! Looks flawless!
Hi Judy,
Thank you so much! I’m glad to hear that you like it. It was actually an easy fix once I found the right piece of the puzzle to make it right! have a wonderful day.
Love the length of the jacket on you, and the paneling down the front.
Hi Terri,
Thanks so much. This is going to be a nice piece for SoCal winters. Layers are good. I wore this to lunch yesterday before the latest lockdowns and I got a few “Stares.” I do think the public at large approved!
This is a tie for first place in my “love” category for denim jacket re-dos. Beautiful!
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the compliment. Just out of curiosity what was the first? Hope you have a wonderful day!
I love the embroidered panel 🙂
Hi Kathy,
Thanks! Me too. There were so many things I considered for this but I am glad I patiently waited for the right fix. Have a good one!
Well done! I need to follow your suit and put more thought into salvaging perfectly good items that, as they are at the time, are not quite what I want. Phew, long sentence. Thank you for your inspiration!
Hi Donna!
Right! Take advantage of that instinct. When you know you could do something with it but just aren’t sure what it is…take a chance and wait for the perfect answer. That attitude has served me well in the thrifting world. Happy Refashioning!
Very cool Mary. I love the inside accent also. I’ve done similar things to hide holes etc. I enjoy your refashions
Hi Betty,
Thanks! I am a firm believer that the inside must look good as well! if the inside is attractive it makes you want to put on a garment and you know it is a quality piece! Happy Refashioning!
I love this! It looks perfect on you.
Thank you so much Dawn! At first I wasn’t so sure but I now love it!
I think it looks awesome. I think sometimes you just have to let things sit for awhile and keep coming back to them before you have a idea of what they need.
Hi Ami,
Thanks so much. Yes I agree. Sometimes I take things out of my stash and play with them many times before I really figure the answer out.
